Epiphany's Leadership Team met throughout the summer to plan for the upcoming school year, which is fast approaching! They also spent some time getting creative with several art projects. Mr. Wang took the time to share his pottery-making expertise, which the team really enjoyed. One afternoon was spent creating a piece of pottery on the wheel, another was spent painting the pieces, and then all were delighted to be reunited with their final project after it was safely fired in the kiln. Thanks to Mrs. Tomboulian and Mr. Wang for the opportunity to learn a new craft.

Happy Fourth of July!
Students in our Underwater Creatures Camp learned about sharks, octopus, jellyfish, and deep sea creatures. We went to the North Carolina Aquarium in Pine Knoll Shores to see some of the creatures we learned about. We thought it was pretty interesting that the weight of all of our campers was about the same weight as a tiger shark!

Epiphany teacher, Mrs. Brinson, recently took the four fifth-grade winners of a summer fun Gala prize to the coast to hike the Fort Macon Trail, followed by lunch and an afternoon at The Dunes Club pool and beach. When bad weather threatened the outing, Mrs. Brinson decided to start at the aquarium . This was a good choice, as one of the students had never been to our great Pine Knoll Shores Aquarium! They spent the morning exploring. When the threat of rain went away, the group traveled to Fort Macon. The humidity was 100%, so the tired explorers opted to tour Fort Macon proper instead of the trail hike. They learned all about the many uses of the fort, how it was built, and what it would have been like to have served there. Finally, they all made it to The Dunes Club, and the boys swam for two hours and enjoyed lunch together with their teacher. The ride home was a flurry of "what was your favorite part of today?"

Our third, fourth, and fifth graders showed their musical ranges today at the end-of-the-year concert. We heard recorders, ukes, and lovely singing. We also honored our fifth graders as they prepare to move on to the Trent Campus in the fall. Way to go, Lower School! Thank you to all the teachers who helped prepare them for this concert.

Our kindergartners did a fabulous job showing why unity is so important with their musical this morning. And last week, our second graders shared their musical, Welcome to the Jungle. We saw giraffes, elephants, zookeepers, and more! Special thank you to Sr. Delima for teaching music and acting to our students.

Congratulations to the staff and contributors of the second edition of our student Literary & Art Magazine (LAM). This project is an ambitious year-long endeavor by our LAM club. Students created all the paintings, sketches, poems, photographs, and short stories. Our graphic design team was responsible for all of the layout, which was put together in Adobe InDesign. Our advertising committee sold ads to cover the printing costs. We are very proud of all who contributed to this effort. We would also like to thank the following advertisers for their support this year and last: Emerson House Interiors, The Harvey/Heron Hospitality, Murphy Matza Wealth Management, and The Law Offices of Oliver & Cheek.

Epiphany senior Caroline Goodwin recently received a Civic Local Foundation Scholarship Award in the amount of $5,000. The scholarship is made possible by funding from Civic and Local Government Federal Credit Unions (LGFCU). Goodwin will utilize the scholarship to further her education at UNC Chapel Hill. This prestigious scholarship, awarded to only 25 deserving students, is a testament to their academic prowess and commitment to their communities. It will support education expenses, paving the way for a successful educational journey. According to Goodwin, “By receiving this scholarship, it will help me pay for college, since I will be in school for a total of seven years. My journey to becoming a physical therapist will not be as stressful, financially, with this scholarship.” The Civic Local Foundation Scholarship is not just a recognition of a student's high achievement in academic and extracurricular activities, but also a testament to the Foundation's commitment to positively impacting communities across North Carolina. By awarding scholarships, the Foundation is investing in the future of our communities. Since its establishment, the Foundation has awarded nearly $3 million in scholarship funding, supporting professional development and higher education. Congratulations, Caroline!

From the Law Offices of Oliver & Cheek: As we enter this celebratory time of graduation and college decisions, we'd like to honor one of our first local scholarship winners of the year. Senior Zabby Memering received the second annual Dare Blackburn Oliver Fine Arts Scholarship this morning. This award is sponsored by The Law Offices of Oliver & Cheek and is given each year to a graduating senior at The Epiphany School of Global Studies who has made extensive contributions in the arts at school and in our greater community. Zabby, who has designed and created dozens of sets for the stages at her school, Rivertowne, and New Bern Civic Theatre, will be attending the College of Design at NC State where she will pursue a degree in architecture. Special thanks to our selection panel, consisting of leaders in our local arts community: John Van Dyke, Jon Burger, Michael Tahaney and Ed Koffenberger. Thanks also to my wife and best friend, Director of Fine Arts at Epiphany - Dare Oliver - for her tireless efforts to bring focus and excellence to the fine arts program in our school. Congratulations, Zabby!

Congratulations to all the Epiphany artists who had work on display at ArtWalk on Friday. The impressive exhibit took three days to install by our hardworking art teachers. It was so much fun to watch our students find their work. We also appreciate all the kind words on our "Leave a compliment for the artist" cards. We look forward to holding another Pop-Up Art Display in the Harrison Center again next May.

Today Pastor Kirk and Rocky, his pet tortoise, asked Rocky's friend Marco over for a visit during Lower School chapel. Students learned a great lesson from Rocky and Marco. They learned that if we live like Jesus taught us, we will grow. Sometimes we can't see it, or we can't tell we're growing, but God is working in us and through us.

The Craven County Twin Rivers Association held its Young Author's Celebration this weekend. We're proud of our Epiphany second grader who attended and was a county and state winner.

Flowers will be for sale in the rear foyer starting at 6:30 p.m. for the Student Favorites Concert tonight. If you have a loved one participating in the concert, please consider purchasing flowers that were arranged by Upper School art students, National Art Honor Society members, and Epiphany art teacher, Mrs. Tomboulian. The proceeds will go directly to our art programs. Each arrangement is $15 (cash or check), and they will be for sale until we run out. Here are some pictures --
